The Assam Board has given students and schools much-needed clarity by announcing the start dates for the 2026 HSLC and Higher Secondary examinations. In an update shared by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on X, the Class 10 board exams are set to begin on February 10, 2026, while Class 12 exams will start from February 11, 2026. SEBA has already published the HSLC routine, while AHSEC is expected to release the complete Class 12 timetable soon.
Class 10 Plan and Timings
The HSLC exams will begin with the MIL/English paper. Most theory papers will be three hours long, conducted in two shifts:
- Morning: 9:00 am to 12:00 pm
- Afternoon: 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm
Students will receive a five-minute reading time before each paper to go through the question paper.

Class 12 Datesheet Update
The Higher Secondary exams will begin on February 11, 2026, but the complete subject-wise datesheet for Arts, Science, Commerce, and Vocational streams is still awaited. AHSEC generally releases the full schedule after finalising all practical and theory arrangements.
Looking Back at 2025
To understand the scale of the exams, last year more than 3 lakh students appeared in the Higher Secondary exams:
- Arts: 2,30,091 students
- Science: 57,724
- Commerce: 17,869
- Vocational: 1,241
The pass percentages were:
- Arts: 81.03%
- Science: 84.88%
- Commerce: 82.18%
- Vocational: 68.55%
What Students Should Do Next
With the HSLC timetable already out, Class 10 students can begin planning their revision strategy for January. Practical exam dates will be released separately. Class 12 students should continue preparing as per the expected February schedule and wait for AHSEC’s detailed datesheet. Students should rely only on official board notices and avoid unverified documents circulating online.
